Compulsive Masturbation

As if masturbation isn’t (for most people) private enough, compulsive masturbation is something that most men find hard to talk about or get help for (if they even know where to ask for help with something so personal.)

There are different schools of thought on masturbation: some people view it as a natural part of being alive while on the other end of the scale others believe that it is wrong or sinful.  There is also no clear directive for how much masturbation is compulsive – 10 times a day? Twice?

It does does not matter what other people think or how they define it; whether they think it’s right or wrong or whether once an hour or 100 times a day counts as compulsive is totally irrelevant.

What matters is how you feel about it; if you think, believe or feel that your masturbation is compulsive, or shameful, or embarrassing, then you deserve help.

The solution is usually NOT to ‘just stop it’, and if you’re reading this page you probably already know that.  Willpower is no match for the chemical reactions in your brain when it comes to sex (with yourself or others).

Various ‘remedies’ suggest that you take up a hobby, play calming music or think about something else when you get the urge to masturbate.  While these techniques may sometimes be effective, I think you’ll agree with me that if you want to masturbate, the last thing you want to do is to ‘think about something else’.

At best these techniques can help in the short-term; at worst they lead to more disappointment and a sense of failure as you are unable to override these strong impulses with distraction techniques.

Don’t you think it’s now time to do get help that has been scientifically proven to work?

The most helpful step is for you realise that, whether you know it or not, you are masturbating compulsively to protect yourself from painful or difficult emotions like overwhelm, panic, loneliness, disappointment, shame, despair, rage etc.  The problem is that the more you do it and continue to suppress these feelings, the worse they usually get – especially as you layer feelings of shame or repeated disappointment and ‘failure’ on top.

And remember I mentioned chemical reactions in your brain?  Well the way that works, once masturbation becomes compulsive, the more you do it the more you want to do it, making it ever harder (no pun intended) to stop.

It is crucial that you apply a technique that resolve your underling reasons for compulsively masturbating because, as you do that, your compulsions disappear, leaving you with the freedom to choose when you want to masturbate or not.

The techniques taught here at The Passion Project do just that, it’s easy to learn and to apply to yourself and you can start right now.
